A Tail Of Two Kitties.

We moved into our house on Saturday and except for all of the boxes and unpacking (I’m such a procrastinator when it comes to unpacking) things have been going really well. On Tuesday there was a knock on our door and it was the previous tenant. She moved out two weeks ago and one of her cats went missing the day that she moved. She thought it ran off into the woods by our house.

They’ve been putting up flyers and looking all over for their beloved cat and came by to see if we had seen the cat around. We hadn’t and so she left her number in case the cat might come back. Then my hubby remembered that the night before our kitty was acting very strange while she was in the kitchen. Strange is our cat’s normal so he didn’t think anything of it. She was hissing and meowing at the bottom cabinets of the kitchen.

My hubby put those two things together and low and behold when he took the panelling off of the bottom kitchen cabinet, he felt around and came across the kitty. He wasn’t sure if she was alive and called the previous tenant who came right over along with a friend. Thankfully soon after the owner got here the cat started moving around which was a huge relief. There is a very small opening at the bottom of the cabinet that isn’t even visible from our view and instead of running away this poor kitty had been stuck in that hole for the past two weeks.

We tried everything to coax the cat out but she wasn’t having any of it. She did stick her head out far enough to get some tuna. We ended up calling the military housing office to see if maintenance could come over asap. They weren’t sure they could get someone over so late and suggested calling the fire department but the hubby and I, along with the cat owner didn’t want it to come to that because as much as we wanted the cat out, we probably wouldn’t have any kitchen cabinets left if they came.

Finally someone from maintenance came over and he was able to open up the panelling so we could get a better reach inside the hole. Needless to say after all the hammering, the kitty was terrified and we couldn’t get her out.

Then the hubby got out the reacher or grabber, not sure what it’s called. It’s a stick with this claw at the end that helps in reaching things that are high up, etc. He got it for me years ago as a gag gift but it’s surprising how helpful it’s actually been. With the help of that gag gift, we finally got the cat out.

I can’t believe that for the past 2 weeks the poor kitty has been stuck in that hole and for the first 3 days that we lived here, we never even knew. Of course our cat figured it out and without her we probably wouldn’t have known. Now we need to find some way to fix that hole so our cat doesn’t get stuck in there. We don’t need anymore house drama.

Our kitty, the hero.

Hopefully she’ll keep out of small spaces for awhile.

Oh my! It’s amazing how resilient cats can be. Mine was stuck under the neighbors house for 3 weeks! Now she’s back in action like it never happened. Amazing creatures they are!

    Congrats on the move!

Thanks! Every time we move our cat finds a really good hiding place but nothing like this thankfully. I’m so glad your cat is okay. I think the owner of this cat was more traumatized than the kitty. Of course I would be too if it was my cat.

I hope everything is going okay with you and your little man. 🙂
