*Warning! Don’t hold this post against me but my brain is mush while doing these credits. I hope to have a real post by next week. My hubby and I are going out on a date night on Saturday. It’s been two years since we’ve done that. It’s exciting and so damn sad that it’s taken so long to do this. :^)
Back in 2001 my husband and I were living in Texas and I decided to go to school to become an Esthetician. Some know it as a Facialist. It’s all things skin care; manual and machine facials, make-up, waxing, etc. One of my favorite things to do is facial and back massages.
Being an Esthetician was something I really loved doing and if I don’t go back to college, I could see myself having a career in it once my daughter (and possibly another little one, fingers crossed) is in school.
The licensing in Texas (I’ve kept up my license there and haven’t gotten it anywhere else. I don’t want my license to expire or else it would be even more of a pain to get it back) requires you to have 6 hours of continuing education credits every 2 years (maybe it’s every year, mommy brain) which is done online. Sounds easy enough but it is a total pain in the ass.
Every page that you read is timed so you have to wait for it to time out before you press the ‘next’ button. It makes me feel like I’m on Lost but without the hatch, the hotness that is Sawyer and Sayid, the smoke monster, the VW van, the Others…..
Those 15-70 seconds I have to wait to get to the next page feels like an eternity and most of the stuff is absolute nonsense. Kinda like listening to my father-in-law talk or reading this post.
Of course while I’m “reading” this, I’m actually reading my Kindle or watching television but those 6 hours that seem so harmless usually takes me a week to do. Here are a few examples of what I’ve been having to “read”:
“83.10. Definitions. (Adopted effective December 8, 2005, 30 TexReg 8082; amended effective March 1, 2006, 31 TexReg 1280; amended effective August 1, 2006, 31 TexReg 5952; amended effective October 11, 2007, 32 TexReg 7050; amended effective January 1, 2008, 32 TexReg 9970)” Timed for 35 seconds.
“The following words and terms, when used in this chapter, shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.” I had to wait 20 seconds to get to the next page.
“(14) License–A department-issued permit, certificate, approval, registration, or other similar permission required by law.” This was timed for 15 seconds.
Once we move somewhere permanently after my hubby gets out of the military, I plan on getting another license. It will most likely be in California (where we currently live) or Washington State. We lived in Seattle for a year and a half and I absolutely fell in love with the place.
I wouldn’t bitch about doing the continuing education if it was actually teaching me something new but it’s not. They just recycle the same crap every time. When you first register, they ask you five security questions and they pop up every now and then. One question that had me stumped was “What was your High School mascot?” I’m sure plenty of people remember this but I had no idea so I put a manatee. hehe. My hubs thought I should put a cat. heh.
Another question was “What was your first teacher’s name?” Does anyone know that one? Not my teacher’s name obviously but your first teacher’s name. 😉 I knew it years ago but have no clue now because I’m, well, old. I was just wondering if I was the only one who doesn’t know. I remember plenty of my teacher’s names but have no idea what my first teacher’s name was. I could look it up but I just made up a name.
So, for now I’m stuck pressing the ‘next’ button and I’m about to lose my damn mind.
