Book Review And Giveaway: We Hope You Like This Song. An Overly Honest Story About Friendship, Death, And Mix Tapes.

UPDATE: The winner is Katie from the blog Katherine The Great. Congratulations!

Firstly, I loved this book so much that I bought a copy to give away to one of you. That’s how awesome this book is.

We Hope You Like This Song is one of the best I’ve read in a while. I consumed it within days while I laughed, cried, and laughed some more. The book is about Bree who’s best friend Shelly died from pre-eclampsia which turned into HELLP.

The two had been friends since the fourth grade and the story is intertwined with the past and when Bree is preparing for her wedding…. without Shelly being there.

To keep Shelly’s spirit alive, Bree and her older sister, Courtnee start a blog to honor Shelly and do weekly tasks such as random acts of kindness and paying it forward.

There’s a crew of main players in the book and it feels like you really get to know each person. Get a box of tissues ready for this heartwarming tale of friendship, love, and loss.

Now, here’s your chance to get a copy. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me who you will give this book to after you’re done reading it so you can pay it forward and spread this great book around like a back alley hooker. Not that hookers spread books around.

One comment per person and the contest is open to everyone, anywhere. If the winner doesn’t claim their prize within 5 days of being contacted, a second person will be randomly selected. This contest ends Wednesday, November 28 at 10 am PST.

Good Luck!

Hi Elle. The book sounds like a great read. If I win the book give away, I will pass this book to my friend Kim (who loves reading as much as I do) faster than a back alley hooker spreads an untreatable sexually transmitted disease.

    Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!

I would definitely pass this book on to my best friend, Lise. We live hours apart but share books all the time. It’s one of my favorite things ever when I come home from work and find a package with a new book from her in it.

Elle, I would so pass this on to one of my 3 besties with the stipulation that they pass it on to someone else. We love sharing books between us.

i’d give it to my favorite back alley hooker – because we both have excellent taste. 😉

This book sounds hilarious, so I’d probably pass it around with several hooker friends (ahem. fellow crocheters).

Once I finished it, the book would go to my pal Camille (’cause she’s the next fastest reader), who would then pass in on to Denise. Denise would give it back to me, at which point I would mail it down to my BFF in So. CA (she just had her first baby a month ago and she had pre-eclampsia, so I’m glad to learn about this book now and not 6 weeks ago or I would have been freaking out).

I’ll pass it on to one of the Instagram HEDLEY GURLZ…Bobbie-Jo (tayden85) or Sarah (vampyrgirl5) or Mairi (calamarimac) or Andrea (hedleyrocks247)…whoever trusts me enough with their address!… 😉
We’ll just play pass the book…
Something more for us to connect with about…it’s been very special getting to know these Gurlz…

    Hey Elle:

I honestly will probably get in a conversation with some random hooker as that tends to happen to me because it will be relevant to their life. I will have the book in my satchel and pass it along.

I lost my childhood friend tragically 2 years ago I think that I could relate to this. I wrote a piece about it and connecting through music. Even if I don’t win thanks for sharing!

My pal Amy had HELLP and delivered at 29 weeks. 2 years ago. She and her baby are great, but boy was it awful for everyone. I will pass it on to her.

This book sounds fantastic!! I would pass it along to my best friend, Heather. We have been best friends since we were 1 year old, I can’t imagine my life without her.

I’d read this book and then pass it on to my best friend from Kindergarten and then our other bff from college. Thanks for the give away

Elle, this book sounds like the perfect thing to pass around my circle of friends/family. Specifically I would give it to my mom with the stipulation that it then goes to my sister, followed by my aunt, and then onto other random people.

I love the idea of sharing a book. Now that I have the idea in my head I’ll probably do it anyway, even if it’s not this book that I’ll be sharing. Thanks!

I must have this book. The Ativan and wine have numbed me so that I cannot cry even though the children and husband make me want to. This book is my key to crying happily!!

I would pass it on to my friend on the east coast. She suffered through a low-res MFA program with me and we laughed about how bad some of the writing was. We need a good read. 😀
